DNA Hair Sample Requirements: Obtain a minimum of 40 hairs with follicles (roots) intact.  Hair must be pulled from the legs or tail of the animal.  Do NOT cut or clip the hair.  Do NOT contaminate the sample with hairs from other animals.  Contaminated samples or hair samples without the follicles attached will result in disqualification of the animal.  Place the hair sample in the DNA envelope.  DNA nomination envelopes/hair samples submitted to the Muskogee Regional Jr Livestock Show on all animals become the property of MRJLS.  Exhibitors relinquish any claim to said envelopes/hair samples when submitted as proof of ownership.  Nomination envelopes are stored in a secure environment and are destroyed in due time following the show.  DNA samples collected at the show that do not match the submitted nomination sample will result in disqualification, forfeiture of all premiums/awards, and will exclude the exhibitor from future competition at MRJLS. AG INSTRUCTOR, MRJLS BOARD MEMBER OR EXTENSION PERSONNEL MUST PULL DNA AND SIGN NOMINATION ENVELOPE.

Lambs, market goats, steers, registered heifers, commercial heifers, market hogs, gilts, doe kids: hair sample (DNA).

Registered heifers must be nominated by December 15, 2025.  Registered heifers  must have hair samples (DNA); if the tattoo for heifers is not present a MRJLS nomination tag must be attached; if registration papers are not available at the time of nomination a MRJLS nomination tag must be attached.  Birthdate and breed must be recorded on nomination form.  Heifers must be shown as nominated.  Registration papers are required for registered beef heifers.  Only original registration papers from breed associations will be accepted.   Family nominations on heifers will be accepted providing the eligible exhibitors (under the household nomination rule, rule #45 in General Rules and Regulations) are listed on the DNA envelope for that heifer.  Registration papers must be in an eligible MRJLS exhibitor’s name matching the DNA envelope.  Registered heifer papers must be in an eligible MRJLS exhibitor’s name matching the DNA envelope.   No ranch names will be allowed on papers.  Tattoos and brands must match the papers and be correctly labeled.

Hogs must be tagged, have hair sample (DNA) collected and ear notches recorded.  Hogs must be ear-notched to be eligible to nominate.  If hogs are not ear-notched at the time of nominations the county nomination committee must ear-notch before they can complete the nomination on that animal. Forms on hogs without ear notches will not be accepted. Premise ID must be on entry form or entry is considered incomplete. Purebred gilt papers must be in an eligible MRJLS exhibitor’s name matching the DNA envelope. No ranch names will be allowed on papers.  Ear notches must match the papers and be correctly labeled.

Exhibitors may nominate and enter as many animals of each specie as they wish; however, they may only show the same number that is stated in the catalog.
